Looking to Jesus

Hebrews 12:2

When you think about God, who do you envision?  A man with a long white beard sitting on a throne in Heaven?

It's hard to "look" at someone you never saw before who is also invisible to the naked eye.  Yet we are told to do exactly that with the eyes of faith.  Many tell us that seeing is believing.  But believing is also seeing!

Looking to Jesus is calling to mind who He is and what He has done for us.  The opposite of this is to only look to ourselves.  When I get down, discouraged or depressed, I need to remember this verse and apply it through meditation, prayer and focus on Him.  He is "the author and finisher of our faith" in that our relationship with God, from beginning to end, is all about Jesus and His love.  God is neither a force nor a vague and distant being.

Rather, God is our loving and personal creator and redeemer, seen in the face of Jesus, who is the image of the invisible God.  Let's look to Him for our every need and give Him the praise He so readily deserves.
