Today is 2019! It's a new year and for many that is exciting. Perhaps this is the year you plan to marry or get that new house, or you're counting down the days until Spring when you're expecting a new child. For others, it's just another year of the same old problems of struggling with health and bills and wondering how you'll get by. One thing is certain: life moves ahead and no one can stop it.
For Christians of faith, this is more than just another new year. It is the joyful reminder and promise that we have a God who is in the process of creating for us a new world and resurrection! This was foretold seven hundred years before the birth of Jesus by the prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 43:19).
As Christians, we already received a foretaste of God's incredible new promise and plan when we received Jesus as Lord and savior (2 Corinthians 5:17). Yet, there is so much more to come as we await Jesus' return. Perhaps it will be this very year! This is the mind-boggling promise of God's new plan for us in Christ, and we are closer to its fulfillment than ever before. The very worst that can happen to us in 2019 is we die. But even death itself cannot separate us from God's love, power and promises (Romans 8:38-39; Revelation 21:1-5). Therefore rejoice and serve the Lord with zeal and be of good courage.
